Periodically, Rimstones Club members will offer Member’s Only classes on rock cleaning and cutting. You will learn the basic Rock Cleaning, Cutting and Acid Washing techniques used by some Club members. Typically, this will be a Bob-Rollo-Marvin Show and the best part is… it’s FREE. The Club has a mighty 24″ saw. Rollo has his less-mighty 10″ trim saw so class attendees can see the difference. Class participants should bring a small rock or two (under 5″ in diameter) to be cut. Class size is limited to 16 members and may be broken into two groups so class members can get closer to the two-ring-circus-like action. Rollo will demonstrate rock-cleaning methods including the super fun “Textile Cleaner” that shoots a fine, high-pressure spray of water. He also will show you the dos-and-don’ts of washing calcite with a water-acid mix. They will teach class participants the steps in what to do with your rock so that you don’t destroy it and are able to bring out its beauty – inside and out. So… Bring a Rock; Clean a Rock; Identify your Rock and its scale of hardness and how to Cut a Rock.

Education has always been a top priority for the Payson Rimstones. Members benefit from the Club’s vast amount of knowledge and interest.

We do hope you will find time to join one of the workshops and see how much fun learning can be! To enroll for this class or to ask questions, contact Rollo at email: rollo_pool@outlook.com.

May 2026

There was a rock cutting/polishing class in May. As in prior sessions, Club members brought rocks to be cut and then polished using the equipment available at Bob and Linda Marsh’s house.

March 2026

Another rock cutting and polishing class for Rimstones members was held in March. Members brought rocks found on some of their field trips to have them cut open so everyone could take a peak inside. You can never judge a rock by its cover. In addition to rock cutting, Club members used equipment to polish their recently cut rocks.
